West Virginia lawmakers discuss ATV safety measure
In 2007, 45 people died in West Virginia while riding ATVs. That was actually an improvement from 2006, when 53 people died -- the highest per-capita death toll in the country. ATV safety advocates say these numbers can be reduced if lawmakers ban ATVs from most paved roads. A bill passed the Senate Transportation Committee Feb. 12 that would do just that. But critics of the bill say it doesn't get at the real ATV safety problem -- driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Scott Finn filed this report for the television program The Legislature Today, and the radio program West Virginia Morning.
West Virginia State Trooper Calhoun County Grantsville
Trooper Jeff Skidmore knocking on an apartment door where the Ranger hangs out a few days per week. Trooper Skidmore has made several stops at the Ranger's property. This video was on April 7, 2008 at 8:45 p.m. Video Surveillance on the Ranger's Property as well as in the Ranger's Apartment has caught the Green Shirts doing some shady stuff in the past. The Ranger will soon have Trooper Starcher on the witness stand in Gilmer County. Some say after Trooper Starcher testifies his badge will thereafter be melted down into a toilet flush handle. Many may remember Trooper Starcher who forced Pete Dilgard into signing a bogus statement to gain a search warrant for the Ranger's apartment in late 2007.
